Feminist Rewriting as a Practice of Contradiction: An Empirical Study of the Multidimensional Effects of Feminist Legal Interpretation

The dissertation project examines feminist rewriting as a feminist practice of contradiction in the tension between ‘law in the books’ and ‘law in life.’ Rooted in feminist legal scholarship, it combines postcolonial theory, gender studies, and legal studies. It examines both law as contradiction and law in its contradictions. It questions the claims of neutrality and objectivity in law and analyses the multidimensional effects of the method. Through qualitative interview and text analyses, the project explores the transformative potential of feminist rewriting as a way of dealing with contradictions in law. In doing so, it contributes to the current feminist discussion on contradiction research in law.
